Commonwealth of Virginia

So, you got married by your best friend who said he could do it but it turns out that the Commonwealth of Virginia said he couldn’t (no online ordinations). As an inter-faith minister authorized by the circuit court to officiate the rites of matrimony in the Commonwealth of Virginia I can sign and file the marriage license with the clerk of court in the county where the marriage took place.

You got married by your best friend who said he could do it but then you discovered that in Virginia he can’t make it legal. (no online ordinations). As an inter-faith minister authorized by the circuit court to officiate the rites of matrimony in the Commonwealth of Virginia I can sign and file the marriage license with the clerk of court in the county where the marriage took place.

Know that there is a time limitation for filing in Virginia. You have sixty (60) days from the issuance of your license to get married, the person officiating the marriage must complete and sign the Marriage Register and the Marriage Return and forward both forms to the clerk of the court who issued the license within five (5) days after the ceremony is performed.

While I would have preferred you had planned things better, like called me first, I understand that things happen. Don’t let this snag in your blissful happiness stress you out, call me now and we can make arrangements to take care of it. Hopefully you’ll call me later.
